PRESS RELEASE: The BIG Recruit Volunteer Campaign Kicks Off During National Mentoring Month

January 1, 2024, Samreen Saadi

[Minneapolis, MN] January 1, 2024 – Make 2024 the year you volunteer as a mentor for youth right here in the Twin Cities! Welcome to The BIG Recruit, our annual volunteer recruitment campaign that kicks off during National Mentoring Month in January and runs through February 29, 2024.

This year, our goal is bigger – we’re on a quest to recruit 240 mentors in just 60 days! The BIG Recruit is not just a campaign; it’s a community call to action. And, we need YOU to join us in amplifying our mission for Twin Cities youth to have a mentor.

How can you supercharge The BIG Recruit with us?

  • Sign up to be a mentor, a friend, a Big for youth: Check out one of the coolest volunteering opportunities in the Twin Cities with no prior experience needed. It’s a few hours a month hanging out, playing pickleball, creating art, or watching a game together. It takes little to be BIG!
  • Follow, share and tag us on social media: Share your photos and videos, give a shout out to Big, Little or mentor in your life, find social media graphics you can use, or share our posts on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok. Use #TheBIGRecruit.
  • Partner with us: Support youth and families, host match events, create youth-centered opportunities for Bigs and Littles, contribute discounts or free tickets, or invite us to host a lunch and learn at your workplace about volunteering opportunities to be a mentor.
  • Share mentoring moments and stories: If you are or have been a Big, Little, or family in our mentoring program, share your moments and stories with us! We’d love to hear about your mentoring journey and experiences. Email us your moments and stories at thinkbig@bigstwincities.org, share on social media and tag us, or use this form.
  • Donate or Friend-raise: Give or kick-start a fundraising campaign now until Give Day on January 23. Invite your friends, family, neighbors, colleagues, and connections to join you in creating and supporting more mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth.

Mentoring is one the most powerful ways to support youth wellbeing. By becoming a Big, volunteer mentors expand the youth’s support system as one more caring adult in their life. Yet, more than 500 youth are waiting for a mentor right now.

Investing in youth is an investment in you. Imagine the ripple effect we can create when we are #BiggerTogether!

About Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities (BBBSTC):
BBBSTC is the largest and oldest youth mentoring organization in the greater Twin Cities serving Hennepin, Ramsey, Anoka and parts of Dakota and Washington counties. Each year, we match up to 2,600 youth (Littles ages 8-13) and their families with caring adults (Bigs) who volunteer as mentors. Through a variety of community-based, school-based, and workplace-based mentoring programs and together with our community, we want every youth to have a mentor, be affirmed in who they are, and explore who they want to be. Visit BigsTwinCities.org and get involved as a mentor, parent or caregiver, partner, employee, or donor.
