Step 8: Alumni Services

BBBS supports Littles after high school graduation through our Alumni Services. This includes financial aid counseling, post-secondary education support, internship and job opportunities and more.

What happens after high school graduation?

Little Sister Jonai and Big Sister Kadi

Little Sister Jonai and Big Sister Kadi are like family. Although their formal relationship with Big Brothers Big Sisters has ended, Jonai and Kadi are still getting support from BBBS.

“We met when I was in 5th Grade, I was 11. Now I’m 19 going on 20 – she’s been with me for 8 years and more to come!” said Jonai.

As Matches transition to the next stage of friendship as adults, Big Brothers Big Sisters continues to be present to support Littles as alumni of the program.

Thanks to ECMC Foundation, BBBS supports Littles as they pursue post-secondary endeavors. We work alongside Littles to start college journeys, enter job training programs and more.

Because of this funding from ECMC Foundation and our generous donors, we have the opportunity to host workshops, events, and in-person 1:1 meetings to help Littles reach their goals and complete the programs they are pursuing.

“The beauty of individualization is that we have the opportunity to work together, one-to-one, to focus on Little’s goals and how we can help ensure they get what they need. From resume assistance to financial aid renewal, they know that they have a support system in BBBS.” said Mae Kindler, Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities Match Engagement Coordinator.

Mae works with both our Teen Matches and Alumni, giving her a unique opportunity to help Matches with this transition.

“I love having the support of BBBS after high school.” said Jonai. “It’s nice having help with questions I don’t know the answers to. Shoutout to Mae [BBBS Match Engagement Coordinator] for always helping me!”

Jonai’s hard work has paid off.

“I’m transferring to Chicago State University this fall! School starts August 24 and I’ll be living on campus. It’s a big change but I’m ready for it!” said Jonai.

“Having a Big Sister and being a part of Big Brothers Big Sisters has impacted me in so many good ways. I learned abilities I never thought I had. I’m proud of my growth from a little girl to a woman.” said Jonai.
