Reaching More Families Through Art
Every week this summer, BBBS staff and volunteers will facilitate interactive art activities at Skoolie Family Fun Nights in Washington County. Organized as a way to reach families who may not have financial means or transportation to participate in summer programming, Skoolie brings fun, family-friendly activities to the community. A Skoolie, by definition, is a school bus that is converted into a recreational vehicle.
The Skoolie mobile programming bus provides families in Woodbury, Newport, St. Paul Park, and Cottage Grove with free healthy meals and interactive educational enrichment every weeknight throughout the summer. Our creative Free Arts team designed a number of activities to inspire creativity at these weekly events, including building popsicle stick puzzles, designing glass magnets, weaving paper cup holders, and making personalized buttons.
Through these Skoolie events, we’re able to expand our impact in Washington County and introduce more families to the power of youth mentoring. For more information, contact Leah Moore, Director of Free Arts, at lmoore@bigstwincities.org.
