Match Event: Introduction to Drones

The sweltering summer heat wasn’t enough to keep matches away from an opportunity to fly drones! On Tuesday, July 27, a large and enthusiastic group of Bigs and Littles gathered at Marshall Terrace Park in Minneapolis to demonstrate that science can be really fun!
After receiving an overview of the technology behind drones, each match learned how to set up, calibrate, and fly their own vehicle. They had plenty of time to practice before moving on to more complicated tasks, like taking photos using an aerial app, running the drone through an obstacle course, and competing against other matches. BBBS staff were on hand to troubleshoot, provide encouragement, and a few times rescue drones from trees.
