Youth experiences and lasting memories with Uncle Jake’s Foundation & BBBSTC partnership

September 14, 2023, Katie Huynh

Jake Peterson led a life full of passion for experiences that he shared with friends, family, and loved ones. From fishing in Canada, to cheering on his favorite professional sports team (SKOL Vikings!), to catching a play or live concert, or riding a rollercoaster at an amusement park, “Uncle Jake” was always finding ways to introduce his nieces and nephews to see more of the world. With admission passes in hand, Jake introduced young people to the joy and anticipation that a couple of tickets could bring.

When Jake Peterson passed away unexpectedly on September 5, 2021, at the age of 26, Jake’s family collaborated with Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities (BBBSTC) to honor his legacy by creating Uncle Jake’s Foundation.

Over the past two years, they have used memorial funds to organize special experiences for our matches. – ranging from 200 Bigs and Littles attending a Timberwolves game, to suites at Wild and Twins games, to musical performances at Chanhassen Dinner Theatre. In 2022, Uncle Jake’s Foundation hosted the first annual “BBBS Vikings Tailgate Party” to watch the Vikings take on the Miami Dolphins. The event featured the Vikings Table food truck, SKOL Drum Line, yard games, face painting, and more!

Thank you to Uncle Jake’s Foundation for supporting these incredible opportunities for Twin Cities youth. Jake’s memory lives on in the joy these experiences bring to our Littles!
