Framing the Future: Littles Shine in STEM Photography Cohort
September 17, 2025, Zinzile Sibanda
This summer, our Big Futures program launched the STEM Photography Cohort, a hands-on program where Littles explored both the art and science of photography. Over several weeks, they learned how to use cameras, experimented with light and imaging technology, and mastered digital processing. From aperture, shutter speed, and ISO to framing and composition, Littles gained the tools to tell stories through images while also discovering exciting career paths in the creative industry from art directors and copywriters to stylists, graphic designers, producers, UI/UX designers, and more!
The program culminated in a final exhibit where each Little presented a storyboard of ten photos, capturing their unique creativity, growth, and perspective. Guided by the incredible leadership of photographer Tyler Vongphachanh, the cohort not only built technical skills but also confidence in their ability to share their own stories through visual art. Scroll down to see their inspiring work and experience the summer through their eyes!

From Snapshots to Impact
This cohort is just one example of how mentorship creates space for youth to express themselves and amplify their voices. You can help make more opportunities like this possible whether by starting your journey as a mentor, becoming a monthly donor, partnering with us, or joining us at our annual gala.
