Big Brothers Big Sisters

Together, the future looks big.

Potential lives within every kid. Yet, more than 8.5 million kids are still in need of someone who will stand in their corner. So, we've sharpened our focus. Reimagined how we do things. Modernized how we look and talk. And we are creating new, exciting ways to put our Littles first like never before.

We are the new Big Brothers Big Sisters. We're here to defend every kid's potential. We're ready to build the biggest possible future. Together. And this is only just the beginning.

Michael Goar, CEO

Chief Executive Officer Michael Goar

In June 2016, Michael Goar took the helm as CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Twin Cities, a nearly 100-year-old organization that has provided half a million Minnesota children facing adversity with one-to-one mentoring relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. Goar has an extensive background in education, including serving as CEO and Interim Superintendent of Minneapolis Public Schools prior to leading Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Twin Cities. His work at the school district included launching the office of Black Male Achievement.  He’s also been Executive Director of Generation Next, a Minneapolis-based youth development organization that works to close the achievement gap. Earlier in his career, Goar held executive positions and COO roles for both Boston Public Schools and Memphis City Schools.  He has a bachelor’s degree in business administration and urban studies from the University of Wisconsin River Falls and a master’s degree in public administration from Mankato State University.  Goar holds a superintendent licensure and has participated in multiple intensive leadership development programs at Harvard University. An active community member who is passionate about giving back, Goar serves on several boards of directors, including Generation Next, Mia (Minneapolis Institute of Arts), Twin Cities Public Television, the Ordway and the Association of Metropolitan School Districts (AMSD.)
