2025 Federated Challenge Raises Over $4.9 Million to Support Big Brothers Big Sisters

July 29, 2025, Zinzile Sibanda

The 21st Federated Challenge has once again delivered an unforgettable weekend—raising a record-breaking $4,945,000 to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters! Federated Insurance covers 100% of the expenses of the event, so all of the money raised supports Minnesota’s three Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.

Hosted for the first time by Federated Insurance Chairman, President and CEO, Nicholas Lower and his wife, Jessica, the 2025 Federated Challenge continued a 20-year tradition of impact. The gala drew more than 700 attendees and 113 sponsoring businesses, including 20 first-time sponsors.

“It is truly inspiring to see such a remarkable display of generosity and shared purpose,” said Lower. “This year’s theme, Mission: Unlock Potential, captures the very heart of what we’re here to do — to open doors, remove barriers, and help young people discover and achieve their brightest futures. This mission is happening because of all of you.”

Mission: Unlock Potential Comes to Life at the Gala

The mission to unlock potential was front and center at this year’s black-tie gala, held at the Saint Paul River Centre. The evening featured remarks from Big Brothers Big Sisters of America President and CEO Artis Stevens, a keynote from Minnesota United FC goalkeeper and Twin Cities Game Changer, Dayne St. Clair, and a powerful musical performance by Loren Allred, best known for her iconic rendition of Never Enough from The Greatest Showman. Guests also took part in a high-energy live auction led by Glen Fladeboe.

We were honored to have several of the incredible youth (“Littles”) from our local Twin Cities agency in attendance this year—Jakaila, Darius, and DeeWah, a Federated Challenge Scholarship recipient—whose presence helped bring our mission to life. Jakaila, along with her mentor (“Big”) Melanie and her mom, Lakisha, took the stage to share the powerful story of their mentoring relationship and the lasting impact it has had over the years.

A special moment of the night included honoring former Federated Insurance Chairman Jeff Fetters as the 2025 Federated Challenge honoree, recognizing his twelve years of leadership and unwavering commitment to youth mentorship. “Jeff made profound contributions to this event during his twelve years as chair, and we are proud to recognize his legacy as a leader in youth mentoring initiatives,” Lower said.

Bringing Their ‘A’ Game for a Cause

On day two of the Federated Challenge, sponsors teed off at the prestigious Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, the future site of the 2029 Ryder Cup.

With perfect summer weather and high spirits, golfers brought their “A” game to the course. Participants enjoyed friendly hole contests and had the unique opportunity to interact with Big Brothers Big Sisters mentors and youth, seeing firsthand the impact of their support.

Gratitude for a Record-Breaking Weekend

We’re incredibly grateful to Federated Insurance, the Lower family, event sponsors, and every guest who made the 2025 Federated Challenge such a success. Your support helps us match more youth with mentors who will walk alongside them, encourage them, and remind them of their unlimited potential.

“There’s truly nothing like the Federated Challenge… The overwhelming sense of purpose shared by a community that believes in unlocking the potential for all young people. I leave with deep gratitude, full inspiration, and a renewed commitment to the impact we can make together,” said Pat Sukhum, CEO, Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities

To everyone who joined the Mission to Unlock Potential this weekend: thank you. Because of you, the future is bigger and brighter for youth across Minnesota.
