Meet Rob Donahue, Match Engagement Coordinator

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your background? What drew you to BBBS?
The most important thing about me is my family. I have a wonderful wife and two great kids, ages 11 and 13. When I’m not at work, you can find me either on the ice coaching my son’s hockey team, on the soccer field cheering on my daughter and son’s teams, or out on the trails running with my two dogs.

I grew up in Owatonna, MN and my dad was actively involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern MN, so at an early age I was able to witness the profound impact of Big Brothers Big Sisters and always knew this was something that I wanted to be a part of.

What does Empowering Potential mean to you?
For me, empowering potential means meeting the kids of our community and highlighting their capabilities and showing them their inner strengths. It’s about helping the kids of our community dream big and then helping them put action steps behind their dreams to help propel them to brighter futures and stronger communities.

BBBS advocates the importance of community and empowering potential. How do you see your role fitting into this?
In my role as a Match Engagement Coordinator, I get to interact with the Littles, Bigs and parents we serve on a regular basis. I get the honor of supporting, coaching, goal planning, activity planning and being a voice of encouragement to ensure that we are all living out the important mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Can you share a particularly meaningful experience that you have had working at BBBS?
Back in 2009, Big Brothers Big Sisters gave me the freedom to launch a campaign called 100 Miles for 100 Mentors, where over the course of 5 days I ran 100 miles throughout the communities we serve to raise awareness for the strong need of mentors for Big Brothers Big Sisters. The whole agency helped and supported my efforts in countless ways to ensure this undertaking a huge success!

Who and what inspires you?
Anyone who refuses to quit, anyone who is unafraid to fall and dares to dream the impossible is a person who inspires me.
