One Child. One Adult. One Life-Changing Friendship.

Taking a child to his first ballgame, teaching her how to shoot a perfect layup, visiting libraries or parks together — all while building a strong relationship that will help Little Brothers and Little Sisters navigate life’s challenges.

Community-Based mentoring is the traditional Big Brothers Big Sisters one-to-one mentoring model. Caring adult mentors (Bigs) are matched with children between the ages of 8 and 12 (Littles) who are often facing adversity.

Once a match has been made, Bigs and Littles spend time together out in the community doing activities that they both enjoy. It can be riding bikes, visits to museums, playing board games, simply hanging out, or whatever they decide together. It can be weekends, evenings or afterschool. Each match is unique and develops a schedule that works for them.

Big Brothers Big Sisters professional staff provides training, support and guidance to Bigs to help nurture a healthy, lasting relationship between each Big and Little. We connect regularly with each Big, Little and parent/guardian to support every child’s development and provide resources where needed.  And we offer optional activities and tickets to community events so Bigs and Littles never run out of new ways to spend time together.

Health & Wellness

We work hard to find the right match. That means connecting Bigs and Littles who share common interests, like sports and active lifestyles.   Big Brothers Big Sisters coordinates monthly fitness-themed activities like healthy cooking classes, yoga, open gym, pick-up games or tickets to professional sporting events. All matches need to do is show up and get their game on!

Arts & Culture

Some matches just can’t get enough of the arts.  Big Brothers Big Sisters plans monthly art-themed activities where matches can explore and express their creativity. Learn new skills in workshops on filmmaking or dance, have fun at paint nights or making craft projects, or visit museums and theater shows together. All matches need to do is come ready to discover arts and culture!
